Dear friends/ Estimados amigos,
(Puedes encontrar una version corta en Español abajo).
We are Martha and Fortunato Segundo.
We have been married for 34 years, we have three children and five grandchildren. We both are from Mexico and came to The United States in 1989. We have attended First United Methodist Church in Denton Texas since 2014. We are members of “Jesus Fuente de Vida” Hispano church in Denton, TX. But I, Martha, have been working at the church since 1999 as a Facilities Manager. I am also currently taking courses to become a local pastor. We have joined an organization that provides access to mothers financially and their children to be happy, and have a healthy start in life. We would love to reach our goal of raising money for women with low income that are pregnant or have children and don’t have enough resources to sustain themselves. I hope together we can make a happy family. We love to contribute by planting the seed of faith, love, and hope.
We are heading to Guatemala for the Ultimate Guatemala Challenge. Join us in supporting real change.
During the course of 8 intense days, we will take on a journey through Guatemala completing three different challenges; a 62k jungle trek from the ruins of Yaxhá to the ancient Mayan city of Tikal, an overnight volcano hike (height 13,041 ft / 3,976 m above the sea), and paddleboarding across Lake Atitlan. It is going to be tough, but we are determined to achieve what we had never imagined. It is set to be one to remember!
Our goal, as a team, is to raise enough money to fund the ODIM Guatemala’s Healthy Mommy & Me Initiative in 2022. In Guatemala, child mortality and chronic malnutrition are among the highest in the world and the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean. In fact, in the rural communities where ODIM works, 8 out of 10 children are malnourished, and a worrying number of babies don't make it to their 2nd birthday. The current Covid-19 crisis has made conditions even worse, with many families losing jobs and unable to support their families.
Through
the Healthy Mommy & Me initiative, ODIM provides mothers and babies
from rural communities with prenatal and postnatal health care, health
education, family planning, vitamins, supplements, and food vouchers, to
give the children a healthy start in life for the first 1000 days from
conception to their second birthday – and you can be a part of this
great effort!
We need to raise a minimum of $6,000 which equals the cost of 120 women's participation in the program for one month. Any donation - big or small - will go a long way to helping us meet our goal.
Will you help us give children in Guatemala a healthy start in life?
